Disc brake swap...Again...
Hi guys,
Sorry, this is yet another disc swap question
Although I have spent hours reading the different posts and FAQ in the forum I'm still undecided if I should go for:
1- The granada swap from www.discbrakesswap.com
2- The kit from http://www.mpbrakes.com/products/pro...product_id=291
I think both kits ensure that I won't have to be hunting parts around. This is great.
This being said I have read about some difficult situations with removing the old spindles from the car for the granada swap while the MP kit re-uses the existing spindles. Looks like a lot less work...
There are a lot of technical postings already out there. I don't need technical help right now, but I would appreciate your comments to the reason why you chose a kit over another??
Thanks
JC

id look at http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html the cobra brakes are pbr same thing baer really is and cheaper youll need 17s to clear them tho
The way I see it:
1. The discbrake swap kit has beefier spindles than stock.
2. The discbrake swap kit is $150 cheaper.
3. The stronger spindle and cost savings more than outweigh the extra work to replace the spindle.
The only minus with the discbrake swap kit is that you will probably need aftermarket or later model rims because of the larger centerdiameter ofthe rotor.
Just my opinion.

this would be my kit of choice it is complete and 100% new no modifications needed

I'd go with www.discbrakeswap.com their kit is $525 + shipping. It is complete with spindles, rotors, calipers, hoses, hardware, etc.
I went with the SSBC kit- fits stock spindles. I ran my stock 14 with no clearance issues. The kit goes together with no issues- very easy. You may need to make your own brake lines, which I recommend anyway. No replacing of tie-rod ends, no confusion at all. I've heard great things about the granada swap and enough people are selling parts for this swap so I don't suppose availability and technical support will really be an issue in the next 15 years. My car is built for a daily driver, so if HIGH performance is your thing, go bigger with brakes- Granada's are bigger and require bigger wheels.
Good Luck

Discbrakeswap fromBrian - EVERY part is included so you don't have to hunt anything down. Fit perfectly the first time - excellent directions (from his website). Stops ona dime - works great. No regrets - glad I used all new components since I can be assured everything is in good order.
Went to Vintage 40 wheels (15x7) and all fits great.

Thanks guys,
Rims are not an issue. I was planning to change my 14' by newer 15' Magnum 500. I believe 15' is ok for any of those disc setups?
If I go with the discbrakeswap, would I need any specific tool? I read that some people would have to compress the suspension spring..
Thanks

i went with sprindles from 71-73 they are the strongest early mustang ones.jravenea do you a basic tool box a spring compressor and pickle fork.if not autozone will rent you a spring compressor unsure on the pickle fork.also while your in there check your shocks ball joints and everything else alot easyer to do then if needed then do it all over later.good luck front disc are well worth the money stops alot better.
