Disc brake swap...Again...
ORIGINAL: jravenea
Thanks guys,
Rims are not an issue. I was planning to change my 14' by newer 15' Magnum 500. I believe 15' is ok for any of those disc setups?
If I go with the discbrakeswap, would I need any specific tool? I read that some people would have to compress the suspension spring..
Thanks
JC

Unless you plan on changing the springs or control arms, it is not necessary to compress them to change the spindles. See the install guide at http://www.discbrakeswap.com/The_Gra...9.3006.v01.pdf

Degins is right. If you have a Mustang Manual, it shows a tool that they used to keep the upper arm in place. It braces between the top of the frame rail (that gutter area where the shock tower and frame meet) and the upper CA. I'm sure others have figured other ways to do this same procedure.
Do you plan on lowering your car with those Magnums?? This is a great time to do it, but I understand if it's not in the budget. Also, this is a great time to get the degreaser out and clean some 40 plus years of crud off of your suspension.
Good Luck!
designs one problem with your link on a early mustang the spring is on the upper control arm not the lower jack under the lower one wont keep the spring from flying out when you pop one of the ball joints out of the spindle.
The shock absorber should take care of those issues, although I agree he didn't mention removing the jack after getting the sway bar & such loose, but that should be common sense as you can't get the ball joints loose if the jack is holding them tight. I bought his kit, and everything looks great, now I just need the shell back so I can install it. [>:]
The local parts stores loan out a spring compressor tool. I took out mine when I did the swap.
My ball joints were frozen in my spindles so I had to replace both upper and lowers as well.

I believe MPBrakes uses generic GM parts, yes GM. Ask him what the replacment pads are? I believe generic nova, camaro replacement pads. SSBC is no doubt the best option. The parts are easily accessable and replacement pads can be purchased at any parts store. What's your car. . . 66 mustang. . . what do you need. . . brake pads for a 64 nova. then take a picture of the guys face behind the counter immediately after you say that.
Well. I believe as long as you know what parts to order that should work. I do agree with the part-store issue tho. I faced the problem once asking for a T5 backup light switch to mount on a 68 Mustang ;-) The guy didn't look further than telling me he didn't have that Mustang part, apparently his computer could only search from the car model and not directly from the transmission model...
By the way, do you know what OEM pads and rotors fir the discbrakeswap setup? Would it be 73 Granada ?
