Default Small Gas Leak

My skills are still basic when I comes to servicing carbs. I have a small gas leak coming from the location indicated on the picture drawn with my expert Paint skills. It only leaks when running and it is a slow leak also. It appears to be coming from the gasket. Whats the best way to approach it? Take the carb apart and get a new seal or RTV? Its a stock Holley 2 barrel on a 289. I appreciate any help I can get with this still being a newb on taking carbs apart.

I know it sounds very complicated, but rebuilding a carb is really just taking it apart, cleaning it and putting it back together with new parts. If you have any mechanical skills at all, you can rebuild it for less than $30-40. No matter what, you'll have to replace that gasket, which means removing the carb, so you're half way there.

You dont have to rebuild the whole carb......hell you dont even have to take the carb off.

Just unscrew the 4 screws on that plate remove the gasket, take it to napa or something and get a new one. Im not totally sure but it looks like an accelerator pump. Might consider getting new parts for it as well (pump piston or whatever)

I don't think he's talking about the accellerator pump housing, I think he's talking about the thing underneath. Screws won't come out without removing the carb.

At least that's what it looks like the arrow is pointing to to me.

StarFury called it right.

If it's bad certainly there are other components that are ready to fail as well.
Best to buy a rebuild kit and replace the gaskets and diaphragms. Kits are cheap, come with instructions and that's a pretty simple carb.

Have at it!

Ok I redid the pic to try to more exactly point at the gasket causing the problem.

That's not the accelerator pump, it's the power valve cap. And it's not a Holley, it's an Autolite

When I recieved my 65 it was leaking from the same point. The PO wrapped a rag around the base of the carb to try and subdue the leak. Can you say fire hazzard. Anyway the plate that the OP is pointing at was bent so I had to straighten it to get it to stop leaking. It is an easy fix. Go to any local parts store and they will have the rebuild kit for cheap.

How is it an autolite? It was rebuilt by holley in 78, is there a special way to tell because everything else is leading me to Holley. I'm not sure how to tell, could you post pictures of the differences?

Oh yeah, and whatever one it is could someone tell me the model number or tell me how to figure it out so I can get a rebuild kit for it, thanks.
