That's why my big-blocks last so long...I don't believe the myths. Synthetics outperform every conventional oil in every way, shape, and form. Oil doesn't know how large your engine is, only the material the engine is made from and the oil passage clearances.

Myabe on paper, but if you use synthetics in a big block, your asking for trouble.

It is a myth as related to synthetic oils. High quality synthetics (Royal Purple, Amsoil, Redline) have no problems with flat tappet cams.
If you actually read all the articles, you'll note they are talking about conventional (read: crap) oils that really have no business being used in anything. Break-in is highly stressed as well. Also, every article is talking about max performance camshafts with extreme ramps and excessive spring pressures. They are not talking about cam profiles that are similar to what anyone would see in the classic realm.
Only an idiot would believe a sponsored opinion-based article posted on the web. Read for context, and not just the summary.

I merely gave you the first link from my "favorites" menu so you could educate yourself. I can give you more info if you would like for me to help you out.
Synthetic oils is good in late-model roller engines, but flat-tappet older engines need a little "grit" in their oil for the lifters to "grip" the cam lobes and spin.
Oh, and onlyan "idiot" would put purely sythetic oil in their BB. Have fun with the rebuild!

Thanks for all the input. I have had my '65 now for 2 full weeks and i am so addicted to driving it. Sorry for the debate, I right now know no nothing about engines and the fluids and one day hope to even be able to jaw back and forth with you guys on with oil to use. Remember, eventhough you argue on the type, we are all Mustang lovers (and yes it's Saturday night and I have had way to may Captian and Cokes :-)

BTW, I just skimmedthe article you posted, but did they mention big blocks specifically or just flat tappets in general? I ask because you keep referring to big blocksspecifically (see your "idiot" quote above) and I've never heard that dino is superior to synthetic in big blocks.

The article is about flat tappets with extreme ramps. The article routinely mentions the break in period. The article is an opinion piece paid for by Shell. Put the pieces together.
I generally put 200k+ on my big blocks. Always on synthetics. I've only had to rebuild engines that I buy from idiots that use conventional oil...
