Default Big or Small block: what do I have?

Sorry for this stupid question. I'm a Mustang/wanna-be-mechanic newbie. My son inherited a 67 coupe with a code C engine (at least I know its a 289). I want to purchase some manuals so he can learn how to work on the engine himself. Everything from simple tune-ups to changing the alternator or water pump, and hopefully to rebuilding the engine ourselves. So do I get a book for a Big Block or a Small Block engine? Mustangs Plus has so many books I want to make sure I get the appropriate one. Is there such a book as "Tuning up your Ford 289 for Dummies"???

Hayne's and Chilton's guides are wastes of money. Buy the Factory Service Manual. It will tell you how to dodamnnear everythingto your car, and unlike the others, it will actually have accurate and plentifulinformation.

If you plan on rebuilding the engine, Tom Monroe's Rebuilding Small Block Fords book is a good resource as well.

Another good source for carb information is Edelbrock. Their carb manual is very detailed. You can also pick up a book on tuning Holley's.

In addition to the above mention of Monroe's book...

I have Dave Emanuel's Super Tuning and Modifying Holley Carburetors published by Cartech. I won't call this a recommendation, since I've really only readthis one,but it's what I read.
