Default transmission

I own a 1967 with a 6 cyl. It runs and idles fine but when I shift the auto trans into drive with my foot on the brake it shutters. I dont think its the engine, could it be the trans and if so what could be the problem? No jerking or lope at idle. it only happens when I shift to R or any D position. Ill check the vaccum hose for leaks. Would this problem have anything to do with the kick down rod or cable, maby out of ajustment?

hmmm...i cant picture the "shuttering". Does the engine jerk, or lope at idle when you shift it? Does it only occur whiling shifting into drive ? A little more info would help.

I would suggest you look at the engine and tranny mounts first to see if something is loose or broken there. I also sounds like you could be having some sort of torgue converter lookup. But that would be my last guess.

when my car was an i-6 i had that problem and it was the torque conv along with the vaccum hose not being connected. That damn hose almost cost me 1500! thank fully my transmission shop guyis a mustang fanatic and showed me what to look for and he hooked me up with a free tq conv and new vaccum hose.

Typically a shuddering at idle is caused by the engine idle speed being too low. You need to verify that the engine idle is at or 550 to 600 RPM in drive or reverse. another cause of shudder is broken engine mounts.
