RE: new to the site have a 71 mustang
thanks for all the great comments, and yes it is a sport roof, i am surprized no one said anything about the 351cj. I got alot of people who tell me there is no such thing and i have to prove them wrong lol. Also for the future i am going to repaint it, im thinking of going with a charcoal gray realy dark color but not black. I just recently redid the interior its all brand new, all that i have left is paint and small stuff like rack and pinion, 9inch rear end put in the c6 lol i guess there is still alot to go lol

Anyway nice car and nice looking build. You don't see too many 71-73's around glad you're one of those keeping them alive!

351CJ is a Cleveland engine.
"The 351CJ is thenewest engine to join the Ford series of high-performance V-8 engines. offering many of hte same features as the 351HO engine, the 351CJ includes such high-performance items as ahigh lift cam, four bolt main bearing cps, large capacity 4300D carburetor and special intake manifold, special valve springs, largeinertia member vibration damper and 2.5" diamtere exhaust outlets.
"But there are important differences. The most important is the compression ratio which, at 9 to 1, allows operation on regular grade fuel. Other differences make the 351CJ an economical, easy to operate, easy to maintain engine. Available on all Mustang models except the Boss, the 351CJ does not offer teh forged aluminum pistons, the heavy-duty connecting rods, or the solid mechanical lifters found in the standard Boss engine. (Available April 1971)" - 1971 Mustang Illustrated Facts adn Specifications Manual
FYI: 351HO is the engine in the Boss 351 if you didn't catch that.[8D]
EDIT: The Cleveland was the only 351 offered in the '71-'73 Mustangs. Prior years could have had either the Windsor or the Cleveland.

RE: new to the site have a 71 mustang
The major difference between the Boss 351 and the CJ came in the top end of the engine. The Boss used closed chamber heads, a Holley carbandsolid lifters. Compression was 11.3:1 on the 71 Boss 351 cars.
I am curious to know what the first 5 digitsof the VIN are on majpains' car. The 3rd and 4th should be 05 if it's a Mach 1.
