The dash mounted version is a factory option. Uses the center dash plate. I've never seen anything console mounted.

were mounted.
From teh internets:
"This option consisted of a set of four lights located on either the floor console or dash trim (if car had AC or not). If they were on the floor console, there would be a set of 2 lights on either side of the roll-up door below the radio. If they were on the dash trim, there would be a row of four lights directly above the radio. If the Mustang was ordered with AC, you were required to order the console in order to order the Convenience Control Panel. The lights functioned as follows:
Two red colored lights labeled "BELTS" and "PARK"
Two blue (red for 68) colored lights labeled "FUEL" and "DOOR"
The low fuel light illuminated when there were 4 gallons or less remaining in the tank. This option had special switches on the parking brake, special fuel sending unit, switched door latches and switches in the seat belts."
Oh yeah, it cost $39.50.
Cool, yea guess the low brake fluid light is on the gauge cluster some where. Mine has not worked in years and years. Not even sure if any of the lights work for that matter. I replaced the bulbs several years before I decided to rewire. I am for sure going to keep it looking original...just not functional.
Hm, I suppose if you had a/c it would have to be in the console. I've just never seen it set up like that. I imagine that would be a much more rare option, seeing as how rarefactory a/c was, what with it costing 1/3 of the car's base value.
hmm, Thats one option my 67 convertible doesn't have, lol. ford did some interesting things back then. for example, my 67 has tilt-away steering. When you open the door, the steering wheel moves to the right to make it easier to get out of the car. Is this a real rare option? all in all, i have been wondering how rare of a car this is. It's a 67 convertible with the deluxe hood, tilt wheel, tiltaway wheel, 4 in the floor, console, 289 2v, power top, power steering, and factory A/C. Let me know what you think.
I've seen pics of that tilt away column, pretty cool. How does that work? I have tilt steering wheel but keep having the problems with it breaking loose. I would like to see something that listed what actually makes these cars rare. According to some sites my Mach 1 is more rare than the vert. But my vert has more factory options than does the Mach. Just curious.
its quite simple. theyre is another door jamb switch that controls a vacuum solinoid. that controls a vacuum diaphram that pulls a rod under the steering column which pops the wheel. Also which is cool, it pushes another switch under the column which doesnt allow the car to start if the wheel is in the away position.
I have added many factory or dealer options on my Fastback. Consoles (upper & lower),factory remote mirror, turn signal hood, AM radio, wheel lip moldings,Shelby8K/140mph cluster, lower back panel, 68 GT grill, disc brakes and GT exhaust extentions. All factory Ford pieces except for the hood itself and the exhaust extensions.
The car is a factory AC car, fold down rear seat, & lower rocker moldings.
I had a complete tilt-away setup that I was ready to install, but I wound up selling it to help finance the rack and pinion purchase.
That convienence (sp?) control group is a rare option indeed. There is a guy at work that has that setup in his 68 coupe. I tried to buy it off of him but he wanted 1500.00 for the setup and none of the warning lights worked. The whole car isn't worth much more than that so I passed.
But I do I love the factory options.
