Im looking to add a middle console to my 69' coupe. Only one i can find is a universal one from cjponyparts. Id like to have some selections to choose from rather than going for the default. Anyone happen to know another shop that sells em ?

Woooww, wait a minute, is that what the vacuum thingy is under my dash. I did not even know I had tilt away column. I have a vacuum diaphram connected about half way down my column that has been disconnected for some time. I never knew that was what it was for. Learn something everyday. Guess mine came with more options than I thought. Does the wheel just slam over to the right when you open the door? Then you have to put it back into position? I noticed I had two switches on my door, just did not know what the second was for.

Yep. It is that vacuum thingy on your column. Many times those pieces are bad and need to be replaced. The pop-away function will not work properly without that piece. The tilt will still work fine though.

When the car is running, the pop-away portionshould not work. Only when the car is off should that work.

It goes up and to the right. Pretty fast too. Don't have your nose over the steering wheel when you activate it.

The "extra" my car has is the remote adjustable drivers mirror. Whee....

yeah man. thats the tiltaway. i figured it out by tracing wires, and pulling the rod which made the steering wheel pop away. i had always wondered what that second switch was too, lol.

not to ***** the thread, but how rare (if at all) is my 68 coupe with the "premium fuel" 302 4bbl, three speed, factory air, and a comfort weave bench seat?

Kinduv an oddball combo I suppose. Not a bad combo at all, but nothing Earth shaking.

Makes me curious though. Do you suppose thebench seat was an option or was it the buckets that were optional? I'm guessing the bench was the option.

Bench was the option. That's why there are so few. Here's some production figures.

The giveaway with the tilt away option is the second switch in the door jam. Often one is black and the other white. The other necessary item is the vacuum storage tank found under the front right fender. This stores the vacuum untill used and looks like a metal coffee can painted black. Often these are rusted and will not hold vacuum. If you have a tilt away and want to see if it works manually, then push the little metal rod about half way down and to the bottom right, push it toward the floor. Also the signal switch will allow the column tho tilt. "Dozerstang", look for a white vacuum cylinder attached to the column and also a electronic vacuum solenoid. Parts to fix these will be hard to find. The "bench seat" option is one of the rarest as far as interior packages.
