Default 3 Valve Swap

Please don't kill me on this, just something that popped in my head while going over the 5.0 EFI conversion. I thought why not go up one step and do a swap with the new 3 valve 4.6.
Wouldn't the 3 valve motor require different things than a normal 4.6? I mean like a 3 valve swap into a 99 F150 with the motor already would require the throttle setup swap.
What would the swap entail over all?

I already read this post https://mustangforums.com/m_4100738/tm.htm I wouldn't want to do a MII suspension or anything else that is going to cut into the car, something I wouldn't want to do to my car. The MII kit changes geometry, bumb steer, where weight rests, all sorts of things I don't want to happen, it wasn't engineered for the gen 1 cars. That Griggs Racing is way to expensive, I understand its complete, but is expensive.

The swap would be in a 67 C code coupe so it wouldn't have the tiny engine bay problem. If anyone can enlighten me it would be appreciated.

Is a '67 engine bay that much bigger than the 1st gen cars? Seems to me like they're aweful similar.

Anywho - you'll need all of the electronics for the ECU,fuel injection, electric pump, just to name a few.

I know there's a few folks that have put 4.6-4V's into 1st gen cars, but that entailed removing the shock towers.

Well the ECU, fuel pump/system, wiring harness, motor mounts are gimmies and the fuel injection would be on the motor. And the 67 engine bay is slightly bigger because they shoved in big blocks stock, but I don't know if wide enough for the 4.6, damn its a wide motor.

There is no way to do this without some serious fabrication. The mod motors are wider than even the old 460 blocks. To fit one into a 67 you have to, at the least, install the Crites shock tower notch kit. I know in 65-66 you need to just about completely remove the shock towers, 67's aren't much bigger. Glazier's Mustang Barn is doing one right now in a 65, and they had to pretty much wipe out the shock towers, and the fit is still really snug.

I don't really see the reason to do the swap. You can get the same (or better) performance out of an injected small block for much less money than you'd spend on the conversion.

I completely agree with you on the small block windsor for less money, I don't see a reason for the swap either. I was just asking out of curiousity because there was alot of talk about it lately. I just wanted to see if there was an underlying difference in the 3 valve swap and get a little more insight into what has to be done. I know there are a few underlying things when you swap the new motors into a F150 that had a 4.6 or 5.4, I wanted to see if there was something different they did on the mustang. I mostly wanted to know to learn some more, no reason not to learn.

And I have never really been the biggest fan of the 4.6 either, I would rather have a 5.0. I have one in my truck but thats just because its almost maintenance free. You really can't play with it as much as a SBW, it cost too much, prices for heads and camshafts are astronomical compared to windsor parts. Thats why when I bought my sn95 I hunted down a 94-95 GT, last stand of the 5.0.

Do a search on rossmacd on Modular Forums. This guy did anice 67 with an 03 Mach1 motor. He has tons of posts about each step. He didn't use an M2 front end, but I think he notched the towers.

Check out Dave Stribling site/shop. He specializes in Mod motor installs. Here's what yours too could look like*S*

Thanks for the site James, answered alot of questions. With their motor mounts it would make the swap alot simpler. They address that you still can use the original suspension in the 67 but it doesn't specify what they did to the shock towers, I'll email them and see if I can get some more details then I will post them here. Looking at that engine bay it looks really really crowded, look at that monte carlo bar, wow. It seems the 5.0 would still be the better swap, I wonder what the weight difference between these two motors are. Just a thought after looking at it, a 71-73 would be the car to put this setup in, that cavernous engine bay it has. But what would be the point when you can fit the biggest of big blocks in there easy.
