I had a reciept of when I bought it and what I paid but they still made me pay sales tax on what they said it was worth (they looked in a book).
What did they have it valued at? Our city has ours valued at $411, so our registration fee is $27

Have fun with cali rules and fees I hear they are lots of fun, they don't make anything easy. The craziest law I heard about cars in cali was that if your car is over 20 years old the state will pay you $1000 to let them crush it, they think our classics are dirty cars only worth a grand. Thats why I love Michigan, really no rules on your car, can be as loud as you want and as long as you have somewhere to hang a license plate its street legal. And they don't even inspect what you register even to see if its real, as long as you have a VIN written on something to show them you are good.
Gotta love it don't ya? What are of MI are u?

I'm about halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor, I may be moving to NJ for a job soon but the car is going to remain registered in MI.

You should probaly call them or the AAA for advice. There's a AAA on Spring st. (between lakewood and clark) and theDMV is on Willow.

Haha thats the exact DMV we go to, or at least where i took my driving test. And thats also the AAA my dad uses, I'll tell him to look into contacting one or the other.

Thanks everyone for the help, the consensus seems to be that it shouldn't be a big deal if it has a clean VIN, but knowing california there might be a few things we have to do. Thanks again!
