Default octane

i was at a show last week, and was talking to a guy with a 65 k code. He was saying he uses 100 octane from sunoco, said his car ran really well on it. What is everyone useing? I stay with regular. Car seems to run well, but would it run better on higher octane?

Default RE: octane

Not if it runs fine on what you're using. Your 2V engine shouldn't have the compression to warrant higher octane gas. That K code is something like 10:1 and it might very well need 100 octane to run well without detonation problems.

Octane is actually a combustion stabilizer, meaning higher octane gasburns colder and slower, contrary to popular belief. Running higher than necessary octane is only going to coat the combustion chambers with unburned carbon, which may actually necessitate the higher octane gas in the future once enough has built up to alter the compression ratio.
