Default Rear end leak

I have a couple ??'s. After driving , I notice a small amount of oil dripping from where the rear end housing is, probably 4-5 drops. What could this be? Also, while driving prior to shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th at higher rpm's I hear a squeking sound. This doesn't happen every time though...just occassionally. Like others I am a newbie.
Thanks,

From the middle.....alot of oil covering the center (about 1/4 of it)...leaves amount equivalent to a doorknob. Could this be the pinion? How much am I looking at for repair?
Thanks

It could be one or a combo of three things...diff. housing gasket, pilot bearing seal, and/or pinion seal. This would be back, middle, front respectfully. You should be able to change all out yourself depending on mechanical knowledge. The best thing to do is wipe the diff down dry and let sit until you see where exactly it is leaking from. Oh, BTW, I am speaking of 9" diffs.

But it's the same for an 8", which you likely have.
