Default Suggestions on breather tube?

I'm having some trouble getting the breather tube off my 289 so I can get to the passenger side valve cover to remove and repaint it. This is the type of breather that is an open tube coming up out of the valve cover and extending down in front of the firewall to the underside of the car. Its my understanding it creates suction when the car is moving which in turn allows the engine to breath. It appears to be welded to two small brackets which in turn are bolted to the transmission case and engine block. I can't get those bolts to turn. They are not rusted...in fact they are real clean...just on real hard. I have the car up on ramps and can get under it but I can't get enough leverage on the lower bolt with my socket wrench. It looks like I'll have to get to the top bracket from above. I have thought about putting a pipe over the wrench handle for more leverage. Even thought about whacking the handle with a hammer. I am afraid of shearing though. That would be a major problem. Any suggestions? Things like this and reading about other Mustang problems like floor and cowl rust make me wonder if I really should have bought this car. But then I go out and look at it, and damn it...I'm 56 years old it just plain makes me happy to have it. Just for fun I have attached pictures of both my babies...my 65 and my 40th anniversary 05.

you may want to drop the rear tranny mount so the engine will rotate aftwards so you can get a better angle on it ( or an impact gun)
