Default Speed question

This might be a bit of a newbie question,

when you change the rear end ratio, does it effect the speed reading and how do you rectify it if it does?

Yes it does, you will need to change the speedo gear that is plugged into the transmission and attached to the speedo cable. Take the old one....count the teeth multiple it (or divid depending on they type of gear change up.down) by the percentage difference between your old gears and your new gears. Then order a new speedo gear with that number of teeth.
