It is my understanding that the reason that the LATCH system was mandated was to make child seat installation more 'foolproof'.
Good luck!
Jeff
Apparently they made it a little TO foolproof

Gothand,

Abtually they make a chileseat/booster seat forward facing for 30lbs plus (1 1/2 year old +). It must use a shoulder harness (3Pt). It goes through the seat and across just as a normal 3 point. This is my issue in the rear, especially with a FB.

Most carseats are fine with a lap belt only email whoever made the carseat and ask them.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. Here is the carseat that the car seat safety woman recommended to me. It uses only a lap belt but has a 5 pt restraint system that is good for larger kids. I think she said you can use the lap belt in the car until they are 65 pounds and then you have to move to a 3 pt system in your car. It is the Safety First Apex 65 car seat. They sell for about $125. I hope this helps.

You can install front facing car seats with a lap belt only. Using a three-point belt won't add anything over the lap belt WRT installing the child seat. You will need the three point belt once your kid outgrows the toddler seat (with integrated harness) and switches to a booster seat that uses the vehicles seatbelt over the shoulder (4 years/40 pounds).

Unless I'm misreading the question, you should be good to go.

Jeff
Yep! Thats right..

If you are looking the the boneyards for belts, anything will work as long as it has the basic configuration that you are after. I snagged a setup out of a 72 Mustang and put it in my 67. Look for Torinos, Fairlanes, Galaxies, older trucks etc.

I was being a dumbass when I posted the original question []. I wanted to make sure it was safe for my daughter and put to much thinking into it. I strapped her car seat in just fine with only the lap belt.

One final bit of advice, I'd suggest getting some sort of 'gripper' seat protector. Not only will it hold your seat in place better, but it will protect your seat material from wear from the seat and catch any of the small spills from your bundle of joy.
