My Valve Cover
I sometimes get jealous of all the work some of you guys do because compared to the "small" work that I do, there is no comparison. Hopefully will get a Compressor this Xmas, and then I'd invest in a sandblasting unit, but for now, my wire wheel on the bench grinder and dremel for the smaller hard to reach areas do me fine.
I wanted to show off the before, primed, and painted valve cover pictures. This took me a lot longer to get cleaned up. What do you guys think?

If you really wanna top it off, you could take a sponge or paint brush etc, tape off the cover around it, and paint the Ford logo in silver. That'd look nice. And you primered it first, which most people prolly wouldn't do. Good job.
I like the idea of making the words stand out. I always choose to primer (with the kind that helps prevent rust), only to make the actual paint adhere better to it rather than making it try to stick to bare metal.
Matt, don't think we all have fancy shops and limitless Sears cards. I still don't have a compressor and did all that same stuff just like you....using a bench grinder, a drill motor with a wire brush, and a $20 Harbor Freightangle grinder with a wire cup.
First let me say, I love your mustang in your signature.
Second, quick question. Is it recommended to add the orange hi-temp RTV sealant to the valve cover along with the valve cover gasket for optimal sealing?
Third, I tried the drill method, then realized that having a battery powered drill was horrible. I loved using the dremel as it was much smaller, however, the wire brushes it uses are weak and fall apart fast.

hey man, dont think that just cause you dont have a fancy shop you cant do fancy things
there are plenty of guys that have done show stopping restorations in their garages or even in their back yards

i have the same problem as you man. just make a christmas list
or a birthday list
. Eventually you'll find simple ways to do some pretty hardcore restoration.
Its amazing what you can get done with some patience and elbow grease
