Default Electrical issue..

Well, I am trying to sell my car as fast as possible to scramble my funds together for my first quarter of school in about a month and.. everything is perfect!.. cept that when I turn the lights on (dash board/headlights) my '65 they flicker on and off. They flicker in an irregular sequence - at random pretty much - and turning the **** up and down does not effect the flickering. At first I thought it was my battery because it's pretty much completely rusted underneath and knocks against the engine bay sometimes but it even happens when it's parked and not moving. I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong cause I've only had this car for about 5 months now (bought it for graduation and now I have to sell for college tuition ) and have not had the chance to really learn about the electrical (too focused on the engine!). What could be the problem? I wasn't going to mess with it at first and let the buyer know but.. seeing as how it's winter and people don't get off work till late.. it's pretty much pitch black by the time they come see the car and the fact that the headlights don't work right is NOT appealing.

Thanks for your help!

If the headlights flicker on and off with the dash lights, it may be the headlight switch. If its the dash lights only, I would look at the 2.5 amp short fuse in the fuse panel. Something is not making good contact somewhere. I just had a simular problem with my dash lights and it was a loose connection behind the fuse panel. A little solder on the connection, and it was fixed. These can be a PITA to locate and fix. A cheap 12 v probe light can be helpful.

I would suspect a bad/weak ground.

As the car moves - it wiggles.

+1 on the headlight switch, that is an easy and fairly cheap fix too. And check your ground wire to your dash lights. Located on the gauge panel.

You may want to change the high beam switch also since it also isa single point of failure that both light circuits go thru.
