Default throwing around ideas on a '69

I'm working on a '69 that is currently a basket case. There is not much on it that can be saved and the car is not a numbers machine, so I feel free to mess with it a bit. I've been tossing around the idea of a custom CanAm racer/RetroMod cruzer. Basically, since the Quarters, Doors, and Fenders of this car are shot, I thought I'd play around with the trashed parts to give it a custom look for a while. Has anyone ever done a full body flare on a '69 Stang? The idea would chop the car at the body line at the top of the quarter, follow it down at the crease on the door and into the fender. I'd leave the body rough but reshape it to give it a road warrior feel.
I grabbed a suitable angle shot off ebay and edited the photo to give it a bit of the look. Go ahead and gawf. I think it looks kinda cool...

No please don't wide body it like that. I mean ultimately its your car and do as you feel, but if all the panels are shot, just replace them correctly. This will help keep the value of the car in the future but if you hack it up you won't get anything out of it IF you had to sell it. I just think they did it right in '69, so why change a good thing? Just my opinion of course so do as you wish

Don't like it!!! Like 4reboy said, they got it right in 69,but let me add that they got it more right in 70, and then they screwed it up in 71[:@]. I may be a little biased though since I have a 70 fastback I'm working on.

well i'm partial too since i've got a 69 i'm working on hahaha. I just don't think the 70 looks right without the scoop the 69 has... but people with a 70 usually say they don't like the scoop haha. And you can't beat the front end on the 69 [8D] both are sweeeet tho.

but back on topic, please don't do that to a 69 haha. or any mustang for that matter. to each their own

If the car is in as bad a shape as you say it is, you'd be doing yourself a favor by either parting it out or keeping it as a parts car and buying a more solid project. Your idea, although different, to drastically change the style of the car, is a BIG mistake. [:'(]

If all that is shot is the doors, fenders, and quarters, I would hardly call it a parts car. At least near Chicago that would be at least $5K. My 70 needs fenders, and door skins for the body to be complete and solid, and I've alreadyreplaced the front aprons, front frame rails, inner and outer rockers, floor pans, trunk floors, taillight panel, outer wheel houses, and both quarters. I would have loved to have one that oly needed quarters, doors, and fenders.

It does seem that people don't mind a new car being modded, but they don't like to see a classic mustang altered. I've seen Foose do lots of these and there are always people who cringe at the work. I thought it would be interesting to chop the trashed panels and play with it, but of course I would not do this to new or even salvagable panels.

This car is a basket case, but it is the project I have for now. It needs new floor, frame, trunk, quarters, wheelhouses, firewall, engine bay, doors, fenders, and then anything attached to these parts. The car is seriously MESSED UP which is why I named it "Beyond Redemption". It will eventually get put together, but it is going to take some effort.

The really neat thing about this car is that it has been on the road for so long. The trunk is held together with gallons of roofing tar. There were THREE layers of floor in the car. This means that on two occasions the floor had rotted out and they dropped a new floor down on top of the old floor and pop riveted it into place. Crazy, but the car runs and drives!! Well, it did until I chopped it with a plasma cutter anyways. I could still run a fuel line to a jerry can and fire up the engine to move the car in the shop.

New floor and frame are inbound (and late) and I'll take it from there. Anyone in/near Ontario have a front clip they want to get rid of? Or any other metal to resurect from"Beyond Redemption"
