Default c-6 trans leak

I got a friend who has a 67 cougar with a 390 and c-6 tranny in it and there is a leak where the PRNDL switch is located it is coming out from behind there and I know the shaft is sealed by a seal.........anyone ever replaced this seal?? if so...what is required?? do you have to drop the pan and valve body????? or is it an external seal/o-ring that you replace??

You definitely have to drop the pan. I think then you just unbolt the selector shaft, disconnect the linkage, and remove the shaft. Installation is the reverse of removal.

well your half correct the only other thing I had to do was drop the valve body assemley...it wasn't all that bad....you can't get a wrench up there as the valve body interferes with the wrench position but hey it's apart now....now I just have to find a selector shaft seal....any ideas where to find that and the accumulator cover gasket also???

I wasn't sure about the valve body, sorry. I have to do this soon as my new tranny (rebuilt C-4) has the wrong linkages. I guess I'll install a shift kit while I'm at it.

Check with a local transmission shop, they will either have it or should be able to refer you to someone that can supply it.
