Best Gears?!?!
[:@] I've been debating on what gears to put in my 73' for awhile now. Do any of you guys have any suggetions? [:@]
Car has around 320 to 340hp - Pretty sad though, I have never touched the gears in this thing and it's like a sloth of the line, that's gonna change hopefully as soon as I can figure out how big the rear is, I just haven't gotten around to it yet Any suggestions??

Kind of depends what you have already and what you plan on doing with the car.

You really need to find out what you have for a starting point. Is it a posi? If you're looking for performance, I wouldn't consider a gear change without upgrading to a posi (excuse me, Traction-lock). As has been mentioned, you also need to take the car's intended use into consideration. If it's a daily driver, I wouldn't go too steep, 3.50's are a pretty good compromise. I went from 3.89's to 3.25's because I run 25" tires. The 89's were fun but they were just a bit too much with the short tires. You're doing the right thing. Ask around, see what works for other's. You might want to post your set up, engine, trans., etc. I'm sure someone else has a similar set up who will share information with you.
As far as I know the gears are bone stock. I'm not trying to build a beast or anything. I'm re-doing the car for the second time and it's probably only going to be driven around town and to shows after I get it re-painted (hopefully by the end of this yr) as far as my setup - it's a 302 - blue printed and balanced/ .30 over / It has the edelbrock performer package - everything except the head, but that's on it's way. / C-4 Trans with a shift kit / Headers to flowmasters - straight pipes out the back, no X pipe or anything. I just want the car to get up and go a little bit. Now here's the nOOb questions of the day: How do I find out the size of the rear? oh yeah, it's not posi. I looked around, by the pumpkin and stuff and didn't see anything. Thx to all you guys for your help. I'll get a pic of it on here as soon as i can [8D]
Here is an invaluable article for you to read to determine just which pumpkin you have.
Read it then get back to us as to what you have, then maybe the gears thing can be discussed in more depth. http://www.maliburacing.com/ford_9_i..._nine_inch.htm
