I have a '66 coupe with a console and auto. The original tranny only had PRNDL and the new tranny has PRND21. Is there a way to modify my shifter to take advantage of first gear, or does a shifter from a later model (maybe '67 or '68) work and fit in the console for a '66?

I've been following your question about this, but I still am not 100% sure. I really think that the one out of a later model will work, because I'm pretty sure the green-dot tranny was removed after 66.

 

I got the linkage part figured out, it was more similar than I originally thought, just had to get the extraneous parts out of the way.

Now I just have to figure out if the shifter I have will work or if it can be modified to work. Not real concerned about being able to put the selector in "1", just want to make sure there are not other issues that I am unaware of.
