I'll bet it's an 8" rear end with a high 2's for a gear. Who knows who owned the car before you though.

If it's the original stock rearend, the gear ratio is 2.79 . I have a 66 coupe with a C4and that's what originally came in mine. But you mention a cam? It really depends what direction your going with the car. Is it going to be a stocker, a Restomod, or a drag car? That is what you need to ask yourself.
I went the Restomod route so the 2.79's came out and I replaced them with 3.55's.I don't do a lot of highway driving with the car, but I do a lot of cruiseing, cruisenights & car shows occassionally. If you are going to do the same, I would go with anything between a 3.25 - 3.73(no more).

yeah im thinking 3.73's for the street. the car WAS gonna be a restoMOD but now its gonna be more like a RESTOmod. i found out my 289 block had already been .040 over so its junk. so i have an untouched 302 block and heads and crank that im gonna use. the motor is gonna be stock ecxept for a mild hydraulic cam, headers, and edelbrock intake with a 650 DP street avenger. im expecting no more than 280-300hp MAX. nothing big.
