Default URGH- 351C HEADER PROBLEM NEED HELP

I have my mustang at the shop right now to get my new headers put in. I ordered some competition Hooker Headers from Jet Hot (yes it is the right part number). They said these would fit my car. I have a 351C 4v with an fmx trans. They are hitting thefloor, the steering box and idle arm. I am replacing the worn rusted headers I have in there now (not sure the brand, but looks like dynomax). So, my mech thinks dynomax might fit and he orders those and tries them, but that is still hitting the steering box.

What are my options here? I don't have a custom car so, this shouldn't be difficult to find a set that fits. I called a custom shop and they wouldn't do a custom set, but a kit they would put together and it "should" fit. I would need to check first before I ship to get coated, but that is alot more money for their put together set that they build. They said they have a bracket for the power steering and so on. I would just like to find a set that would fit the car from a reputable manufacture. I can only keep the car at my mech shop for so long so I am at a time crunch right now. I don't think taking a hammer to the headers or box should be the answer.

I need suggestions!!! Please help!

Thanks,

Dave

You can also try FPA http://www.fordpowertrain.com/Headers.htm, a lot of the guys in the 335 forum have used them with good results.
I do know that when you put Hookers in a '69 & '70 you need to get a drop bracket for the power steering unit. If you ordered these directly from JetHot they might not have been aware of or had the techincal exptertise to know that. Have you called Hooker tech support yet?

Many "minor" header clearance issue can be dealt with by using a ball peen hammer.... on the headers, not on your car....

Thanks for the suggestions. Hooker wasn't that much help. They think that there could be a problem when it was jigged or my shock towers could be sagging. I asked my mech about banging on the headers and he said that wouldn't work for the hookers, but might work better for the dynomax. They're really close to the starter though and I don't want to have heat issues with that even though the coating is supposed to be alot cooler. I can't be the only one with this set up that has headers. What has anyone else used?

The Hookers on my car a very tight fit against everything including the starter. I ended up wrapping my starter in a header blanket that I had left over from a long ago project.

I put a new set of headers on my Clev last year. I think they were patriots. They fit nicely around the power steering and clutch linkage. There are not many options for headers for the Clevelands. The are not great, but they fit.

If you dont have the power steering drop bracket, get one. My hookers were a little tight on the drivers side and rubbed against the frame rail under the car, but a little tugging got them in tight. My exhaust guys tweaked the collector down a little when he installed the pipes with some heat.. It fits nicely now and no steering problems..
