You will need some help. Place the rubber seal on the glass first, you may want to use some sealent that doesn't harden up. A smalleven bead works good.I use a heavy weed eater string and run it around the outer groove letting it overlap on the top a couple of feet. With a extra set of hands or two, start the bottom of the windshield with attached rubber on the lower lip of the opening. Your helpers will have to apply some force to hold it in position. Pull the string while your help is holding pressure. Try to reach the corners at the same time. This will pull the innermost part of the seal over the lip, take your time and don't loose what you gain by having them mantain pressure. If you do, then just start over. Once you get the hang of it, its not too hard. After you finish, you may want to apply some sealent to the outside seam to keep out water.I pull back the rubber and apply the sealent trying not to impare the little clip studs so that the trim can easily be re-installed.

I would suggest having a glass company come out and do it, especially if you have never done it before or have no help with someonewho has done it in the past. It's not that expensive. If it is not done right, water will leak in and can cause damage. A leaky window is no fun.

you should usethe 3m glazing and bedding compund between the rubber and the car to prevent leaks. Also, there's an article in mustang monthly by Jim smartthat you should shearch for that details the process.

I would have someone do it. I had Elite autoglass replace everything and the labor alone was pretty cheap. Plus, the window I had before leaked like none other, and it was a huge pain in the butt.

Default RE: replacing rear window

I replaced the rubber seal and window by myself. For one person it is difficult but not impossible ( don't recommend it ).
Used the non hardening ( messy ) window sealant and appplied liberally to the rubber seal and body. I put the seal on
car and then the window into the seal. This was not the easiest way, but still it was in with about 30minutes of effort.
If I were to do it again I would fit the rubber seal to the window first as recommended by others. The rubber seal I
received was a bit too small and rounded off on the corners when fitted. But the sealer filled everything nicely.

Mask every thing you don't want sealer on. The sealer cleans up nice with turps.

Overall the finish I achieved was good and I am happy that it does not leak ( sure enough sealer in there....)
The only problem I have is every time I do something it leads to me wanting to do something else. So after
taking out the interior dress panels, I am next pulling the seats and carpet and putting in some sound deadener..........

Most of the work on my car I have to do myself, as in Japan this job would cost me about US$400 to get done,
so its much cheaper to DIY ( and use the $400 on more parts....)
