Default Replacing heater cables

I have removed and rebuilt my heater box on my 66 vert. I want to replace the cables with new ones. I cant seem to get access to the back of the controls, nor can I remove the control panel. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Ronnie

Default RE: Replacing heater cables

The controls are hard to get out. The best way would be to crawl behind your dash and try to access the back of them from there, but even that may be hard because there is a bunch of junk on the back. Its hard to take out, but that way you know it will be hooked up right and you can clean everything too so the controls move smoother. I dont remember exactly how I got mine out but you should be able to feel around in the back and see what is holding the control plate on. If I remember correctly there are 2 square-ish bolts that you have to take out, and then it will take some coaxing to get out cuz the control mechanism is pretty big. Be careful once you get it unbolted not to scratch your dash with the edges of the panel. If you are working on other stuff in your interior, it makes it easier to have the gauge cluster out, and maybe even the stereo so you can reach around. let me know if you have any other questions.

You can see how my dad is under the dash in the 3rd picture below. take out the seat if you have to and crawl under to see if you can get to the controls.
