RE: changing to 3.55s
i wanna say 2500 was 55 in my II with a 15" wheel and 3.40's but i cant remember for sure - its been awhile since i've been able to drive it all around.
since 90% of any driving i will be doing is stuck in traffic going 45-55 i dont really mind but again if you go lower than 3.55's your going to hate any highway driving. i'd thought about 3.55's but i dont really know that it would be much of a difference from the 3.40's so it seems like money wasted.
anyone have firsthand seat-of-the-pants experience with gear changes that small?

LOL i'm guessing you used the wheel size?use the tire size measure tires most are like 26 27 or 28 in tall
like 3.70 gears @65mph with 27 in tires would be 2993+300 rpm slippage you lookin at 3400rpm
4.11 @65mph 27 in tire is 3325 rpm
i've run 3.70 in many cars its not that bad if everythings balanced good tires driveshaft mostly around 3500 runnin 65 70 it just dependson what YOU want good luck
john

RE: changing to 3.55s
i swapped from a 2.87 to 3.54 on my car. gas mileage went from about 13 to 10.5. if you want your speedo to read correctly you will need a new speedo gear. I didn't switch gears and just drove based on tach. I did the math on old vs new rpm's at key speed points and knew how fast i was going based on that. a gear swap would be better.
itsa great mod
if you want, i can see if i can find my excel file that i put together to help me in deciding between 3.54 and 3.373
