Default tranny question

i have a c4 in my 69 mach 1 and i was lookin at converting to a 5 spd. at first i waslooking at a t-5 but i didnt think it would be strong enough for it engine im gonna be running. im in the finishingstagesmy 408 cleve and im not sure what its going toproduce but based on the numbers other ppl are producing i dont think a t-5 will withstand it. so i was looking at maybe buying a Gforce t-5 but i havent really heard much on them. i do know they are rated at 500 ft-lbs but then there is the tko-500 which is supposed to be a really good strong tranny. my problem with themis the first gear is a 3.27:1... which i think is gonna be a little high. i dont want it to wind out to quickly, correct me if im wrong... but i like the t-5's first gear 2.92:1 and in fifth gear tko is .68:1 or .82:1and the t-5 is .62:1 .... my car isnt going to be quite a daily driver but just under that ...lets just say it will be driven alot ... can you guys who have any experience with this give me some advice.. if ibought a tko 500 could they change gears or something... any one with experiences with the gforces or tko's and do they fit in the tunnel w/out any cutting.. ??

thanks guys for you time lucas

I recently got a T5, and am planning on replacing the first gear becasue everything i have heard is that fisrt gear is the weak link on it. I do however know a couple people with TKO 500s on their weekend drivers, and they are quite happy with em. dont know if this helps, but itll keep your post up top for a little

look into the T5 a bit more...if you got some cash, they can be made into pretty tough little F#$%ers

Holy crap, I woke up this morning and was like...I want to swap my 1981 4 speed F-150 transmission with a 5 speed. I logged onto here to do a search and saw this thread right on top.

I gave those guys a call and I was looking at about $2300.00 for a 5 speed with all the extra stuff. He said that mycar wouldget better gas milage and I'd be able to drive it out on the highway a bit better.

yeah i called them earlier today and they said that they sell kits for the t5, tr-3550, tko500, tko600, it turns out that the tko600 has a 2.92:1 first gear which is simular to the t-5 2.94:1 first gear. he also said that there was only a $70 difference between the tko500,and 600. and both will fit nocutting involved.so i think im gonna go with the tko600 tho its kinda an over kill, i dont think ill put over 450 ft.lbs thanks guys
