Default Huge question!

I have a question my transmission, in my 1971 ford mustang with a 351c. I checked the vin numbers to make sure what kind of transmisison i have but I just want to make sure so I am posting a picture of the numbers to see if anyone does know what kind of transmission it really is.

Default RE: Huge question!

My FMX trans has this casting number C9ZP 7006A which is a FMX. The decoding is as follows:

C - decade of mfg (1960's in this case)
9 - year of manufacture (1969 in this case)
Z - product line (Z=mustang line)
P - part type (auto transmission)

So yours is:

C8 - 1968
A - Galaxie product line
P - Auto transmission

Since the last portion of the casting number is the same as mine I would say that you have a FMX out of a 1968 Galaxie.

Not an expert in all that Ford did, but I would say that your trans was originally in a 1968 Galaxie. If the decoding info I have seen is right then a 1971 auto trans casting number should start with D1ZP.

Thanks very much for the information, I knew it had a FMX to due the vin. numbers on the car, but I didnt know that it has been replaced, so it answers alot of questions I had. I am in process of rebuilding my engine, and I am trying to figure out certain things about my car which I have owned for about 4 years now.
