so last night i got into a debate with a subaru sti owner. he was trying to tell me that no matter how fast i made my mustang it wouldnt be faster then his sti. ok i can agree with that all-wheel drive turbo charged probly ownly weighs 1,200 pounds. i happened to ask a girl walking by if she would rather get laid in this (my 1970 mustang primered sleeper looking) or his riced out sti with the fart can she was cool and said the classic that made him mad. so he told me that his car will never break because its a subaru. ok alright whatever so we go for a ride in his sti. and WHAT HAPPENS well i dont know. his gauges went nuts and a loud beaping from his boost control wouldnt shut offhe pulled to the shoulder of the road.he opened the hood and it was like the inside of a computer i had to ask him where the engine was. i ended up having to walk maybe a mile down the road to get my car i think he ended up towing it home.

just another reason that makes me love the classics more and more just have so much room to work with things.

Hey now, dont be hatin on the STI. It would smoke a stock mustang any day. Keep in mind that it is the muscle car of today's generation, and it is an amazing piece of machinery. I have ridden in one that wasnt a piece of crap and it was one of the best experiences of my life. My mom drove it, and said a few choice 4 letter words after flooring it. Its a good story tho. People should learn to never make claims about their car they cant back up.

I've heard that the STi's suffer from weak factory transmissions. Some of the newer ones are quick though, mid-low 13's stock on street tires. And his STi prolly weighs close to what your Mustang does. 1,200lbs is what a Formula 1 car weighs. VERY light 4 cylinder cars are around 2,500lbs

This thread is getting moved to Street/Strip very soon.... but anyway,,, the guy is FOS.... of course a Mustang could be built to smoke his ***, there are plenty that will already.

I am quite sure that of two more or less equally fast cars, one a modified STI, and the other a modified Mustang, the modified STI guy will spend more money and more timeon vehicle repairs.... the drivetrains wont take it.

I will pass on the rice of any variety,,,, thanks anyway....

oh no im not talkin sh*t about the sti i know damn well it could smoke me anyday. 67mustang302 your thinking of the evo's. evos got a bad 5 speed but a cast iron block to run whatever amount of boost they want. where sti's have a bullit proof 6 speed but not so great block.

i just hate how you have to be a damn electricion to work on them know a days. im not one to talk it up i drive a classic not a super car.

Well i love the classic stangs myself... but my brother has an STi... it rides nice its hella fast... thats all there is to it, they launch and they turn far better than any stock mustang. Its also true that the block is alluminum and cant take the boost of an evo but it is lighter. Not many old school cars close or with bolt ons can hope to keep up, that being said, the older cars are just more rugged and they really do have style. I personally love the classics and wouldnt trade my 72 for much of anything. But there is no harm in giving respect where it is due, i love cars of all kinds and these turbocharged grocery getters are no joke. (but our classics are still cooler =-) )

I agree, new cars are way to complicated. It would cost $1500 just to replace a ten dollar part on my 94 volvo cuz they would have to tear out the ENTIRE dash to get to it. that makes no sense.

Im curious what do you think it would take classic mustang to be able to atleast have a chance with one of these cars? a good stroker engine making 400hp? decent suspension
rear end gears and 5 speed tranny?
