Where can I get a replacement title?
Long story short....I previously owned a 68 fastback J-code rustbucket that I pulled the drivetrain out of and sold several years ago. The guy who bought it just parked it outside and left it sitting. (didn't help the rust issue any)
Anyhow, he contacted me a few weeks ago and asked me if I could get a replacement title for him as he had the car sold and somehow lost the title without ever having switched the title over into his name from mine. I went to the DMV to try to get a replacement title just to help the guy out but I was informed that it has been too many years since I put the title in my name and they didn't have records going back that far.
He called me back two days ago and asked if I wanted to buy it back since he didn't have a title or else he was going to sell it for scrap and have it crushed. Needless to say I'm once again the dubiously proud owner of a very rusty J-code fastback.
I know a few years ago you could send off to someplace like Alabama or somewhere and get a lost title. I could probably part it out and get a lot more for it but since fastbacks are getting harder to find I thought I would try to get another title somehow and either keep it myself and fix it up "someday" or sell it to someone who wants a cheap major restoration project. I just didn't want to see it get crushed.
Any thoughts? My own state of Ohio can't seem to find the title for me but do any of you know where I can get a lost title?

before you do that you need to contact the state, just because the local DMV didn't have it doesn't mean the state doesn't have it. You want to do this especially sense you don't know if the guy really lost the title or did something else with it.
Thanks for the replies. I guess it doesn't matter now though, a friend told me tonight he wants to buy the car as is. Sheesh! I didn't have that car back very long!
Just a note that in Ohio http://www.broadwaytitle.com can not be used to obtain a title. See lower section on their pricing page. I just had to go through this in NJ where they cant be used also. I was lucky in that the seller was able to obtain a Duplicate title after simply getting an Insurance card. Seems an insurance card is a valid proof of ownershipto the DMV here in NJ. I wasn't complaining and quite happy
Also, if your friend doesn't take the car or takes it to part out please let me know regardless of its condition. Just send me a PM here. Thanks.

Actually we cant get titles. I think we asked and they said it was up to some year. Also some other person correct me if i am wrong but i dont think we can use the titles for classic vehicles.
