Should be a C4 unless the car came with a big block. Is it a one piece case or does it have a removable bell housing? Also what is the shape of the oil pan, that is the easiest way to tell.

if it is a one piece and DOES NOT have a removable bell housing than it is NOT a C4 it would be a C6 or an AOD. However the C4 has a square oil pan, are you sure the bellhousing is not removable? This is a picture of a C4
