RE: Rebuilt 289
this thread makes no goddamn sense. your K code needed to be bored .040 over? if i read that right then who cares? bore the friggen thing .040 over. that does not make it a 302[&:]

RE: Rebuilt 289
I blew so many parts in it that my mechanic friend whom I trust very much said that it was going to cost so much to replace the parts because they were HiPO parts and I had a regular 289 at my disposal to save the HiPO and fix it when I had more funds because I am only 16 and I am paying for all of this.

RE: Rebuilt 289
this is true.. it doesnt make much sence. what I got out of it was he sold a k code 289 engine (not the whole car?) and bought a regular 289 bored out one helluva lot. now im really confused[:@]

RE: Rebuilt 289
Is it really necessary to be that harsh. I don't see what is confusing. My HiPO out of my K code is GONE I started this because I had to bore out the new motor and I don't know what kind of differences it is going to be in driving and what not. I was unclear in what the machine shop said I'm sorry I said it was going to be a 302 I just don't know crap about this sort of stuff which is why I joined this forum.
I bought this car with the money my dad left me when he died so I am paying for all of this with a 16 year old income. So advice is worth more than anything to me right now.

Advice....unless the block is trash, go get that engine back. I don't think you really understand how much more valuable the car is with the engine. And considering that there aren't many vitalhi-po specific partsto the engine (main caps; crank, which isn't really any better than most standard cranks; balancer; and front counterweight),all of which are generally salvagable unless you completely grenaded the engine, there's no reason not to rebuild it.
Rebuilding a K code engine is not really any more difficult or expensive than doing a mild performance build on a non-hipo, and it's worth it, seeing as you have the matching car. If you really, really can't afford to rebuild an engine, sell the entire car as a whole to someone who knows what it's worth and use that money to buy an entire car in better running condition. At least there will be a complete K code left in the deal, and you'd probably come out with a car that runs much better.
