Default Window vent frame removal

My dad wants to remove the vent window frame from the doors in order to replace the weatherstripping. The windows dont leak right now, but we replaced all the other weatherstripping so he wants to replace that too. Has anyone ever done that? How hard is it? Is it worth the effort to get use of the few dollars we spent on weatherstripping?

It seems to me that when we remove the bolts from the door that other things might get disconnected, like the window tracks or door openers or something and that would be a royal pain in the butt to fix. is that true?

These cars are fairly simple. Take a photo or two of the assembly before you take things loose. The vent windows are a little tricky. Their are a couple of allen headed type adjusters that have to be removed by moving the vent window assembly up to where the holes in the doorline up with the bolts. You take one out first then move it, then the other. The 1/2 " retainer nuts have to be removed first before the allen head bolts can be removed. They go back in in reverse order.

Perfect explanation Evil Elanor, I wish I had asked this question before I replaced mine. Took me 3 hours on the passenger side, and 20 minutes for the driver after I figured it out

You can replace all theweatherstrippingwithout removing the vent window. If you are doing the felt in the channel at the back of the vent window it is easier if you remove it.

I am almost positive you cant replace the vent window weatherstripping without taking it out. I dont remember it specifically, but im pretty sure i tried and it didnt work.

its suggested to measure the distance from the edge of the door to the vent and the top of the vent base where the door meets, to make sure its positioned correctly for reassembly.

Having done this recently, I don't know how you'd do it either without removing the frame. Don't forget, the rivets for the upper seal and divider sealtake a special tool that costs close to $100.

My advice is to only change them if they need changing. Getting the windows in and out and properly adjusted is not the easiest task.
