Default machine shop costs

alright, just wanted to asks everyone, what do you consider good machine shop charges? I went by one to see about cleaning my trans casing in one of those large dishwasher things...they quoted me $30 bucks. seemed kinda high. I also asked about fly wheel resurface. $50. i know its not much info, butdo these seem about standard?

ok, thanks for the fast answer. as for why not clean it myself...it was pretty nasty, (outside) and even my power washer didnt evenget most of the crap off. had some gears come apart in it too, kinda wanted to have a REALy clear inspection. looks good too.

most places have a $30-$75 minimum charge so the $30 sounds about right but the $50 for the fly wheel seems a little high.

Not to change the subject, but sense you mentioned your T5 project, how is it going? I just got my case back tonight from a friend who had access to a cleaner. My trans needed a new 2nd gear, a new 1 2 slider and a new output shaft. plus the full kit. I managed to get an outputshaft for less than $100 and the trans was given to me so with all the parts I am in to mine for about $400.00

dont worry bout the change of sub. i got my answer. as for the T5, its going kinda slow. still waiting for the cluster/gears they are all comming together.
and, its it possible to throw the shift forks outta alignment or somthing? I was messing with it after it was cleaned, and it just seems like it wont move right.

some of those "master" reuild kits arekinda pricy.. like 300 or so. did you get one ofthose, or a smaller one?

I did the same thing to mine you just need to slide the middle block piece back in to the flat middle piece with the u shaped hole in it... well at least that is what i had to do. I did buy a master rebuild kit. I figure why run the risk of having to get back in to it 20K miles down the road. I also bought a solid steel bearing retainer and a buillit aluminum counter shaft stabelizer
