Default 289 firing order

Greetings everyone, this is my first post here and the first restore i've ever done, I bought a 65 mustang coupe, I startedthe resto in the engine compartment by striping everything down repainting and replacing everywear part in there. Iam putting ever thing back together and noticed this morning that the fire order may be wrong. the intake and the books say that the firing order for the 289 should be 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, however if i'm reading it right, mine is 2-7-5-6-3-4-8-1, I started at the imprinted 1on the capand worked my way clock wise. is this right. If it is should I rewire itthe way it suppose to be?? someone please help with this. By the way the car ran fine before I started the fix up so I'm really confused.

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 is correct. Looking down on the distributorfrom the front of the car going clockwise from #1 it would be 8-4-5-6-2-7-3 Hope this helps

Hey, thanks for the help..I just found a post about the way ford numbers their cylinders and it much different from GM. The last one you listed is actually they way they are. Thanks again for the help makes me feel much better about it.
