Default T5 buying opprtunity UPDATE with pics

hello

I have a chance to pick up this t5 http://fresno.craigslist.org/pts/556313673.html I called him and it sounds like all the parts are there but may have broken gears. 30.00 for this trans is a safe buy even if the guts are totally destroyed Im only out 30.00 bucks.

What do you guys think I should do....at what point is it not worth messing around with it?

If I wanted to ask him for the tag number so i could identify the trans such as 1352-xxx where is that number indeed located on a tag bolted to the tail housing?

Thanks for you advice

-Gun

**UPDATE**

well it turns out its a NWC out of a Ford 1983-84 T-Bird/Mustang 2.3 L4 Turbo. I dont really feel like throwing any money at a NWC but I am going to use it for fun. Ill practice removing major componets and learning their names so if i find a trans worth salvaging ill know whats wrong with it. I can also use this guy as a core parhaps if the need arises.

Here are the links to the photos.

For $30, I would pick it up and have your local transmission shop rebuild it with the G-Force kit.

I think the kit is like $1100. The World Class rebuild kit is much lower.

1,100 is way more than I want to spend

but putting 300 or 400 out for rebuild would be fine.. I think I have seen them on ebay for about that price does 400 sound like enough to get a wc rebuild kit?

You won't know what you'll need to put into it until you take it apart. But for thirty bucks how can you go wrong? Grab it.

$30.00 is a steel. Gears are about 50 -100 each and a main shaft can be upwards of $300 so if the guts are bad you may have a serious price tag. A good rebuild kit with all the small parts is about $200 and I recommend an improved countershaft stabilizer $60 and a solid steel input shaft NOT A 2 PIECE or aluminum type!!! I just rebuilt mine and have about $400 in to it including a new main shaft (lucked out and got one on ebay for $80.00 shipped simply because it had no spedo gear hole) I have lots of good info if you want to tackle the rebuild your self and can help you decide what to replace and what to keep. Let me know if I can help any further
