RE: Where has your car left you?
my starter broke into a bunch of little pieces one night when i got off work. spent the next hour and a half under the car in the parking lot in 30* weather with nothing but a t-shirt and jeans fighting with my headers trying to replace the starter. thats the only time she's ever let me down

t-5 transmission went out right when I was crossing a state hwy. My car was right in the middle of the road. I almost got plowed by a semi! I was lucky it was a 2 lane hwy and the people were paying attention for once. I had about 30 cars stopped while the guy in the semi helped me get the car out of the road.....

RE: Where has your car left you?
my worst incident was:
it started sprinkling and i new it was gonna storm so i headed in from downtown. it started getting worse so i turned the lights on and the wipers on. the engine started ideling REAL low so i constantly had to give it gas to keep it going. i figured somethin got in the carb. i pull up to a stoplight and the lights got dim. GREAT. battery or alternator. lights go dimmer and engine stalled. thunderstorm hits and its pouring rain while im at the stoplight and it will not start back up. i call my dad to come and give me a jump and i sit in the middle of traffic, dark outside and raining. my 65 doesnt have flashes so i decide to tap my brakes so cars wouldnt hit me. Cop pulls up and turns on his reds and blues to warn traffic and helps me push it to the side. dad comes and jumps it and i floor it all the way home.

RE: Where has your car left you?
My two most memorable were from the 70's during my college years. I used myparents original 66 coupe as a dailydriver at that time (it's mine now). I experienced a heater core failure on theSan Mateo-Hayward bridge. Lots of steam and green fluid in the passenger compartment. Probably fairly toxic as well. Luckly, I was able to get to one of the few emergancy turnouts. The bridge is 5-10 miles long over the San Francisco bay. I re-routed the heater hose using the Prestone Radiator Flush kit fitting that was installed on the heater hose. The second incidenthappenedon University Ave in Berkeley CA. I stalled the car at a stop sign (chattering clutch problem). Iattempted to start the car, but the key just turned in the igntion switch. It turned 360 degree, it was shot. I had to push the car back to my girlfriend's apartment (we've now been married 30 years). I've had lots of problems with ignition switches over the years and got stranded many times.
