k i striped my gas tak of all paint i used aircraft striper on it and i think i may have gotten stripper on the out side of the sending unit. im just woundering if there was a rubber seal around it that it could have posible eatin threw? sorry if i dont make any since i wish i had a picture i could show.

yes theres a seal under the sending unit sandwiched between the gas tank

If it was a old seal, it would be a good time to replace it anyway. Trust me, you don't want to fill it with gas to find out you have a leak, especially if you don't have a drain plug.

yeah you should be able to pick one up probably from auto zone or advance if not a mustang parts house will do

also since its striped i like the silver metal color of it sitting in my new painted black trunk can i just do a coat of clear over the bare metal?

Yes you can clear over the metal. I would wet sand the metal with a 2000 grit wet paper. You will need a mechanical bond or the clear will flake off. Wipe the metal clea with an enamel reducer. It dries real fast and will remove the water very fast. Once you enamel wipe it you go directly to spraying.

The clear may flake off and make it look worse. Just wax it and keep it clean.

scotch brite and wax and grease remover wont keep it from flaking off?
