I envy whipper snappers

RE: I envy whipper snappers
I' 45, with a 2 year old son and daughters age 25 and 18. My dad was not intersted in working on cars at all. I learned most of what I know from Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines, along with friends that I worked on cars with. We broke a lot of stuff and made some costly mistakes. I have reminder scars about messing with springs and such. I'm so happy to have a son to pass my knowledge (or lack thereof) on to. I can't wait till he's 10 or 11, then the fun begins.
On the other hand, I have learned tons from this site, as well as other sites I've belonged to over the years. I've also found out that some of the stuff I thought I knew was wrong.

I have 4 daughters, 1 son, and my wife could care less about my mustang..haha. But at least she's letting me build it, that's what really matters most. My oldest just turned 16, and my youngest is 6 months. My son is only 3, so I can't really teach him much about the cars yet, and my older daughters could care less about classic cars. This is my first (classic) mustang build, for I used to have almost all Chargers, Superbee's, Roadrunners, etc. But back in the day, they were affordable, but not anymore.

So we have a forum full of Old Farts like me(say45 and over?), Whipper Snappers (say 25and under?) and those in between whom we shall from here forward refer to as Whipper Farts. Sounds like a good mix to me. Gets the job done.

My 65 mustang was a project for my dad and I. He passed away in a car accident the day after we pulled the i6 out of the car. If not for this forum the car would of sat as it was. I had no mechanical knowledge whatsoever. Now the car Has a 340hp 302 hooked up to a AOD and a 9' rear end with disc brakes. All new suspenion and much much more. All I have done myself with the help of this forum.

hahaha, whipper farts ftw...what a great post.
my father passed away 10 years ago. he was interested in cars, but didnt have the time to help much. But he did have a great shed in which he allowed me to do my first mechanical rebuild on a GM "ute" in about 1987.
for the mustang, i have some good mates to assist and this forum. Being able to share ideas and experiences (with pics) is such a great thing and will ensure the Mustangs popularity and survival way into the future.thanks guys!!!

Here is my "whipper snapper" son.... He wanted an "old Mustang"...so the deal was (as I'm sure is the case with alot of you), help me work on it, and we'll do it. He was 16 when we began, and he has been exposed to all the stages of the resto...and best of all...it's his when it's done...check out the pics of him plasma cutting, welding, installing parts...

Don't know if you guys know what a whipper snapper is, down here in Australia, its a term we use for kids/teenagers.
Anyway, I've been thinking about how different it is nowdays with regards to the availability and ease of obtaining information about working on your car.
When i first started turning wrenches some 20 years ago, you basically got your knowledge from your dad, older brothers or mates. You learned from you mistakes and sometimes this cost you $$$$.
Nowdays, with forums like these, years of built up knowledge from so many people is available with the click of a mouse.
You whipper snappers have got it GOOD

And how about how we envy you oldbuggersthat were able to buy fully loaded muscle cars for under $5,000 BRAND NEW? Grass is always greener on the other side.
