Default starting engine with NO transmission

ok...my new crate engine will be here in one week, i am with super limited space, and limited time on borrowed engine lift, my engine bay has just been painted and engine is ready to go in,...however...the people that are rebuilding my C4 trans are not ready for me to drop it off till next week and will take 2-3 week for turn around, he is super busy,...but has a great reputation so its worth the wait to me,...

my question is, can i drop the engine in and get everything hooked up, headers and all, and start the engine and make sure everything is working right while the trans mission is at the shop,...what would be needed to do this,...just the flex plate, bell housing, and starter?,....

Wait for the transmission.

Nothing worse than unbolting your headers because the tranmission won't bolt up.

I wouldn't be in a hurry. It will be hard on the mounts by starting it without the trans. I don't see the reason anyway. Wait and do it all at one time, far less problems.

There no problem letting it sit for a while as long as its protected from the weather like inside a garage. We have motors sitting in our shop longer than that waiting for customers to pay for they.

you can put oil it if you want it would just sit in the oil pan though. I don't know how you can get anti freeze in the block without starting it.

+1...I cannot get my tranny in or out with my long tube headers on. The bell housing will not clear. I would wait.

theres no problem starting the engine with no tranny. you can actually find problems that need to be fixed that way. for instance, i work at an engine machine shop, and my dad got his motor/tranny all back together. both were fresh rebuilds, but theres a bad vibration. so my boss says disconnect the flyweel from the converter and slide the tranny back and start the engine. if the vibration stops, then you know the problem is the tranny. if its still there, then you know the trannys fine and it is a balancing problem then.
