would you rebuild my C4?
i got a 1966 mustang GT 289 a code from my uncle who was the original owner, the car has 42k original miles on it, but sat for 20 years in a garage, he got into a fender bender and never drove the car again, sat in a garage,...
i removed the engine for a crate motor which will be here in a week, i removed the trans (C4) and it has been sitting in my garage now for 2 months,..i drained all of the fluid and it looked really clean,...there didnt appear to be any wet spots or leaks on the transmission, just really dirty,...
what are my chances in putting this back into the car with a new flex plate and torque converter and there being no problems,...
he had no problems with the car at all before it was parked, would you take this for a full rebuild, or take my chances and put it back in?

I would have it rebuilt. My C4 works fine, but I am prolly gonna have it rebuilt just to be safe. Its only about $400 or so, and if you are getting a crate engine, you will likely have decent power and you will want a good tranny.
how much HP will the crate be making?

even if the tranny seems fine i'd rebuild, 20yrs is a long time for something with moving parts to be sitting with no fluids pumping thru to keep it lubed. my brother had a C4 built a cpl yrs ago for about $1000, but that included B&M shift kit and parts, B&M ratchet shifter, AND the labor cost. if you can build it yourself you could save prolly $300-450. good luck!
i would never attempt to touch, open, or work on a transmission, haha, it is not something i trust myself to do...i have changed clutches and such, but would never and have never cracked one open,
i personally would try it out and see if it works or not... if it works you save yourself about $800+ dollars if not you are not going to lose no way... change the fluids and filter... and mount it up

yes jegs and summit racing carry kits as well as other places i ordered a tci kit from jegs when i built the last one. depending on the kit you need you have to read the tag heres one for the early c4 shift kit included http://store.summitracing.com/partde...612+4294854623
then heres for the later c4 it already has your shift kit stuff included http://store.summitracing.com/partde...612+4294854623 229$ for both of these kit is very reasonable then id also replace the torque converter to match your cam if your doing any engine mods

I am NOT soaring, but .....
Why on earth are you changing the engine on an original '66 GT with only 42k miles? I'm definitely into restomodding but if my car was an original GT, I'd have to go back stock. If it was a K code for sure, but even an A code.
