Default torque box

[sm=helpout.gif]I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on torque box removal. I have the floor pan out and i wanted to know how difficult it would be to remove the torque box and whats involved. Also I noticed the fuel line running through the torque box. Is that where its suppose to go? Any advice would be great. Thanx.

While the floor is out is the best time to go after the torque boxes. They will need to be installed before the pan. I dn't think the fuel line should be there. It should be running along the tunnel, not through the box!

After looking at my shop manual, my fuel lines are to run down the tunnel. They might take a turn under the seats and run along the driver's siderocker. I need to install my fuel lines, haven't got to it yet. I see nothing about it going through torque boxes. I have a 67.

Yes after looking into it further, the fuel line runs through the left torque box, down the rocker, then cuts up and over to the tank. The torque box will be a bear to remove, as it is welded on all sides. But removing any sheetmetal isn't really easy, unless it has big holes in it from rust like mine did. Is your torque box rusted? Just wandering why you need to remove it?

My torque box is rusted out around where the fuel line runs through. Other than that it just mainly surface rust. Do you think I could fabricate a piece around the fuel line and weld it in? Also I just ordered the POR-15 Kit. Ya think I could clean it up with the kit and brush on the paint?

I would try that. If it's just around the fuel line, then that will save will a lot of trouble. While your at it, when you cut out the rusted area, maybe the hole will be big enought to rust prevent the inside of the torquebox.

I can see the inside. It's just some surface rust. Should I reroute the fuel line on the outside of the box?
