stick shift trans

so i worked for a little extra cash and i want to put in a good solid manual trans for my 70 restmod. its got a 351c in it right now and i was wondering what is a good trans to put in and how hard is it to switch from auto to manual.

You're asking the right people...these guys know... My guess would be if you could find a donor car to get all the manual equipment from, you'll be way ahead, in the sense you can see first hand how it goes together, where certain brackets are located, their position, springs... all stuff your automatic car won't have...

I also intertained the idea of getting a performance 5.0 with a manual trans with it. i see alot of those on craigslist

Swapping in a manual is pretty easy if you got all the right parts. Most popular are the t5 trannies they usally fit without any modifications to the tunnel so iv read. If you have the parts they can be orderd or fabricated like the crossmember to hold your tranny in the tunnel. And shorten your input shaft at NAPA get the pedal assembly and clutch linkage and you should be set to go those are the major parts youl really need.
