Default stroker build questions

i was wondering what the better route to go would be for my stroker build? on the one hand i could go with a junkard 351 block andget all the machine workdone and build it myself, on the other hand i could go with a short block from P.A.W. or somplace like that and go that route. let me know what you guys think would be cheaperand/or better and specify why. as always thank you,
sincerely,

If it were me, I'd try and find a rebuildable 351 roller block and do it myself. That way I save money on labor and know it was done right.

The price works out pretty much the same, I had a block and bought a quality scat rot assy, I took my stuff to ford performance soulutions, they did the machine work, balancing and assy after all was done my shortblock cost about the same as their cheapest one (about 2200.00) but I feel I got better quality parts than they would have used and a build bluprint sheet with all clearances, torque specs, balance sheet.....etc. In my case I am fully competent and have built many engines (and made stupid mistakes as well) but I just didn't have the time and I would have had to buy some new tools to do it right. I originally dropped off the block for machine work and balance and for another 350.00 they assembled it. Bieng a plumber, I can make that in an hour or two so it was well worth it for me and it was absolutely perfect.............

a roller block is a newer block that is designed to run a hydraulic roller camshaft

the older blocks have to be machined to run a roller, OR you can buy a retrofit kit that eliminates machining,, but they are somewhat expensive

if i was going to get a block i would go ahead and get a roller ready block

Roller cams, lifters, and rockers wear better and create less friction. This in turn increases energy the engine expends to get and keep things rotating which roughly equates to more horsepower. IMO, it is the only way to go if you are starting over.
