Rear Drums Before/After and a Question
Looks like you have it right. Interesting that the before pic did not have the adjuster cable and 'shiny piece' what ever it is called. Also, the before looks to be the driver side and the after the passenger side. Good job on doing one at a time so you have another to reference. I've been doing drum brake jobs for 30 years and still do that.
You will need to hook the spring to the shoe first, then get it over the post. Having in mounted to the car helps. I think the brake tool is a waste of money and tool box space. Some vice grips clamped on the spring and muscle it over the post. falconfixer's idea about the screwdriver works well, too. Just make sure to use a long but fairly skinny flat blade driver and do as he said.

Congrats on getting it done.
In case you don't know, to finely adjust the brakes, go in reverse and hit the brakes hard. This activates the adjuster wheel. In other words, I adjust them loose when assembling, then (on an uncrowded street) get going in reverse about 5-10 MPH and hit the brakes. You should hear some clicking as the adjuster turns. You'll have to do this several times as the adjuster only turns a little with each time.
HTH!

late to chime in and great you got it dovne
there's only 4 tools that will work/you'll need with drum brakes:
hammer
big f*ck off screwdriver
sidecutter
waterpump pliers
if you have them 4 you'll master any drum brake

Just a thought, the shoe size seems the same in the photo of the new pads installed. If you notice the before you changed them, their is a difference in the amount of pad on the shoes. The rear most should have more pad and look to be larger than the front. You may want to take a look at this as in the photo they seem to be the same size. Do you have both the rears on the same side? Ane both front shoeson the other?
oh very true as well. took my a while to figure what evil is talking about, but he's right.
If you have 2 long pads and 2 short pads and have them mixed up, you'll car will be braking uneven in back

Well, I finished the second drum. It was a piece of cake after struggling with the first one. I got it disassembled, painted and reassembled in about an hour.
I got the large blue spring in the correct hole- thanks for the heads-up.
Also, all of the pads are the same length, so I should be good to go.
Thanks for all of the help guys.
EDIT: after posting this pic and taking a look at it online- I realized that pads are different lengths. LOL- looks like I'm not done yet.
