Rear Drums Before/After and a Question
Ok so I'm in the process of rebuilding the my rear drums- I've never done this before, so if something looks screwy, please chime in. Also, I can't for the life of me get the final spring hooked (I'm pointing to it in the last pic). I have the correct pliers. Any suggestions?

wow looking really good. definitly should increase the level of saftey as well. i dont remember how i got that spring in. i think with a plier and alot of muscle strength. lol
Ascola, just curious... How hard was it to rebuild the drums? like the whole process, including pulling them off, do I need lots of skills or special tools or anything? im sure my drums need a rebuild. Also, how much did a rebuild kit cost?
It's not that hard at all except for the part were I can't get that last spring pulled. Put your rear end (assuming your rebuilding your rear end) on jacks remove the your wheels and drums. Take a few pics of your old setup for reference, take all of all of the old parts off and put the new parts on. I got the complete rear setup minus the drums for $70ish from Laurel Mustang. I got a drum wrench (I think thats what its called) for $7 from the auto part store. It's not all that technical, probably well worth your time.
I've got no experience in working on brakes, but from my great experience taking various mechanical things apart for repair, it looks like in the original picture that spring was installed first, then the one to the left on top of it. That may or may not have anything to do with it though.
The brake tools are worth the $$ in aggravation. Buleeeve me. Buy the kit with everything. (or learn to cuss like a sailor!)
The spring needed to go on before the other one. You must disasemble and put the spring on the shoe and post, then put the other spring and bits on.
However, before i got the the tools i would first put the spring in the hole on the shoe. THEN i used a screwdriver (just the right size) to 'lever and slide the spring over the tang on the other end'. Took a few tries... Ensure the screwdriver head allows the spring hook to slide over it. Ensure the screwdriver is long enoungh to get the leverage you need...
