Default question about price

i have a 289 and 3 spd transmission I am looking to sell. I have no idea what to ask for it> It would be nice to get some opinions on what kind of price i should ask for it. It runs great and is currently in my mustang. Thanks.

well, it depends on the condition of the body, paint, and interior. If it's in good shape, i say around 5000-7000.
It's basically what someones willing to pay for a car. I bought a excellant condition 1966 289 auto, with the original 50,000 miles on it for $2000.
I hope this helps any, remember, If someone has alot of money and wants a old mustang, they'll pay some money to get one.

The transmission isn't worth much. The engine will probably go for a couple hundred dollars. Sorry, there just isn't much market for an old 289 with a 3 speed.

Just curious Worm, do you happen to know the code of that engine? If it is a K code, it will be worth a whole bunch more than a C code. Let us know.

What is the difference between the K code and C code? Also is the 289 not a good engine? Or did it depend on the year?

You could scroll down a few posts and get your answer, but here is that thread. https://mustangforums.com/m_457576/tm.htm The 289 is an extremely good engine. The good thing about it, is that you can heat it up with aftermarket parts that will make it a very strong runner. It's a small block engine that revs quickly. Or, you can just leave it as it came from the factory, and have a strong car that you will enjoy driving.

It is a C code engine. I am selling the transmission with the engine mainly to get rid of it. The engine runs strong, never had any trouble with the mechanical side of it as long as I have owned it (3 years). A bad starter and alternator but nothing to do with the engine. Anyways, the engine and transmission is locally listed. I didn't put a price in the ad and one man already called me about it. I wasn't home but I need to know what I should be asking for this engine. Maybe I should have found out its value before trying to sell it. LOL. Thanks for your help.

I'd probably start with $500.00 then see how many hits I got. Most likely though, you won't get that much for it.
