Default alternate grounding points

so the big brown mustang truck brought my tach yesterday (from summit) and it says its best to run the black wire to the - battery terminal, yet they put a short little length of wire on there that i dont think can reach across my car![:@] it says you CAN run to alternate gorund, but they dont recomend it. anyway, whats a good source for ground?

Ground it solidly to the metal dash.

Which tach did you go with? I'm looking at the 5" Auto Meter 1499 8K tach from summit.

I went with sunpro II. its a little thing, 2 5/8". theres not a lot of room on the 70s for them and its tightso small is good. im putting it on the leftside ofsteering column. even though it isnt hooked up yet, i kinda drove around with it on there kinda loose so i can see where i like it. they say just put it on there with a hose clamp...but ihave to say, it looks kinda bad like that, even painted.
about the grounding, would just putting abolt through the dash and screwing itin beenough, or should i try to round up some soldering stuff?

all i ever did was install an eyelet to the end of the wire and drill a small hole if there wasnt one already to the very bottom part of the dash, in other words you couldnt even see it sitting in the drivers seat. and use a small sheetmetal screw then dab a coat of paint on the screw head. but i agree on the hose clamp deal it looks horrible, i have an older 5" auto meter monstaer tach, but i have nowhere to put it, my coupe has a factory tach, has the full guage package, has a/c so it has dash vents, and a full length floor console. as a matter of fact im gonna put up a post to see what some other guys did.
