Default Help with headers? - I need the run down...

I have a 1965 Mustang V8 289 (auto tran), and I wanted to put headers on her, can anyone recommend something that is decent, and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? -- Is there anything I should avoid?

Along the same line but on a different note, can anyone explain the pro's, con's, and difference from full-length headers, shorty, tri-y, ceramic, nickle.... Basically the difference between the headers.

Here is what I used on my car:

I highly recommend ceramic long tubes. The elites from Hedman fit well and they still look great on my car after 3 years. These are also about the cheapest ceramics you can get.

best bang for the buck is long tubes, cons of em are ground clearence, and i dont know about anyone else but my floor gets HOT!!! in the dog days of summer, maybe 66s headers being they are ceramic coated helps out in this, i never had ceramic coated headers before so i couldnt tell ya, just make sure they have nice thick flanges where they bolt up to the cylinder heads so they dont warp and cause leaks. i had a set of flowtechs on my 88 gt and they were junk! also headman has really nice collectors, its aball and socket design so they dont use gaskets at the collectors, just tighten em up and go.

stay away from Patriot brand headers, espically their tri y design. other brand of tri y's should be fine.

i have a 65 with those and they are an absoulte pain cause of poor design and clearance issues with the shock tower.

im going with hedman or hooker's when i switch.

+1 on the Hedmans. we put a pair on our 65 coupe. we purchased the drop bracket and glad we did. i'm sure you'll need it for yours as well. love that ball and socket design on the hedmans as well. you get a little xtra room to play.....

+2 on the Heddman Elites, look and fit great. I tried two sets of the Patriot Tri-Y and they had different problems fitting.

We are using Headman ceramic coated headers also. In my opinion the quality is very, very, good.

We also purchased a set of Headman non-ceramic coated headers, the quality of these was much less than the ceramic coated ones, but so was the price!

+1 on the headmen ceramic for fit and finish. But over time they tend to surface rust right at the flange/and about an inch of the header pipes. I guess it's accounted to the excessive heat at that area until it gets past the first bend in the pipe. (this happened to mine as well as a buddies)
